Planning a trip at Chicago Midway International Airport? This guide helps you discover the most reliable taxi transfer in Chicago, Illinois. Avoid overpaying by calculating your price in advance.
Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) is the "City’s Airport," located just 10 miles from the Loop on Chicago's South Side. As a major hub for Southwest Airlines, Midway is often the preferred choice for those heading to the downtown business district, McCormick Place, or Hyde Park. A taxi from Midway is iconic and efficient.
Taxi stands are located on the ground floor (Arrivals level) of the terminal, just outside Door 2. Midway taxis are metered. Because of its proximity to the city center, a taxi from Midway is often faster and only slightly more expensive than from O'Hare for those staying in the Loop.
| Destination | Estimated Fare | Approx. Time | Service |
|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown (The Loop) | $35 - $45 | 20-35 mins | Metered |
| McCormick Place (Convention Center) | $30 - $40 | 15-25 mins | Metered |
| Hyde Park (Univ. of Chicago) | $35 - $50 | 20-35 mins | Metered |
| Magnificent Mile | $40 - $55 | 25-45 mins | Metered |
| O'Hare Airport (ORD Transfer) | $70 - $95 | 45-75 mins | Metered |
*A $4.00 airport departure surcharge is added to all fares. Tipping is customarily 15-20% for good service.
Midway is much easier to navigate than O'Hare. From the moment you step off your Southwest flight, you can be in a taxi in less than 15 minutes. If you are heading to McCormick Place for a convention, a taxi is significantly better than the "L" train because it drops you right at the convention hotel doors, avoiding the long walk from the transit station.
